The more than 700 businesses that are actively engaged in the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce already know the value that this organization provides to community entrepreneurs. As a provincially recognized Regional Tourist Information Centre, the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce also promotes local arts, culture and community programs and services.
The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce is charting the future of the services it provides by participating in the SDI project. These services are responsive to the needs of local businesses and to the economic challenges faced by the community. The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce is engaging with a broad spectrum of the community, including not-for-profit, educational and social services organizations, in a dialogue about ensuring our collective future prosperity.
The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce's infrastructure is currently being expanded and upgraded in the following ways, in order to better serve the business community:
The Business Knowledge Initiative (BKI) helps local businesses explore new opportunities presented by technology, identify and pursue federal and provincial funding opportunities for business development and expansion access online learning services, and improve earning abilities and market competitiveness. Business Advisors provide one-to-one support and referral services to local businesses through the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce.
Video conferencing and audio visual facilities implemented at the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce, the Newmarket Public Library and Southlake are impressive community resources designed to support distance learning, facilitate teaching, and to provide space for community associations and businesses to meet and plan their bright futures by sending Newmarket expertise around the world and bringing world-class talent home to Newmarket.
An upgrade to the existing network infrastructure at the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and the Library supports the requirements of increased data loads and new media tools that are integral to knowledge-based industries. New business operations software and software platforms are increasing our ability to provide online services to local businesses by reducing the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce's operating costs, opening new markets, supporting innovation and allowing for easy access to strategic resources.
Our state-of-the-art Digitization lab will be scanning, uploading and indexing records held at the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce in the coming months, including agendas, and Chamber board and committee meeting minutes so that these records can be made available online for Chamber members. Our team is currently digitizing the Newmarket Era newspapers dating back as far as 1852, the Newmarket Public Library's Bowman Art Collection and art collections at the Town of Newmarket to make these invaluable resources available online, text searchable and freely accessible to all.
